Magnitude 4.6 earthquake strikes near Villa Yapacani, Ichilo, Departamento de Santa Cruz, Bolivia

Just 21 minutes ago, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Villa Yapacani, Ichilo, Departamento de Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Monday 4 January 2021 at 3:44 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.

The event was filed by USP, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Villa Yapacani (pop. 18,200) located 64 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Chimoré (pop. 5,100) located 83 km from the epicenter, Santa Rosa del Sara (pop. 5,300) 86 km away, and Portachuelo (pop. 11,500) 108 km away.
