Just 11 minutes ago, a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Saturday 16 January 2021 at 8:43 pm local time, at a great depth of 331.9 km below the surface.

According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Ōyama (pop. 21,700, 87 km away), Iwata (pop. 88,500, 94 km away), Sagara (pop. 25,900, 95 km away), Hamamatsu (pop. 605,100, 96 km away), and Fukuroi (pop. 63,000, 99 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
