An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred only 22 minutes ago 68 km northeast of Hashtrūd, Iran, the Iranian Seismological Center (IRSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 11 km beneath the epicenter near Hashtrūd, Hashtroud, East Azerbaijan, Iran, early morning on Sunday 17 January 2021 at 5:38 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Hashtrūd (pop. 16,900) located 68 km from the epicenter, Ardabil (pop. 410,800) 72 km away, Khalkhāl (pop. 51,000) 74 km away, Ahar (pop. 94,300) 95 km away, and Hashtpar (pop. 45,300) 104 km away.
