Small magnitude 3.0 earthquake 32 miles northwest of Toyah, Texas, United States

3.0 quake 17 Jan 1:03 pm (GMT -6)

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 3.0 quake in the United States near Toyah, Reeves County, Texas, only 15 minutes ago. The earthquake hit around noon on Sunday 17 January 2021 at 1:03 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Toyah (pop. 98, 32 miles away), and Pecos (pop. 9,500, 43 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
