Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Toyah (pop. 98, 32 miles away), and Pecos (pop. 9,500, 43 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.

The earthquake hit in the morning on Sunday 17 January 2021 at 9:24 am local time at an intermediate depth of 85 km. A magnitude 4.2 earthquake near Puerto Escondido, San Pedro Mixtepec -Dto. 22 -, Oaxaca, Mexico, was reported 32 minutes ago by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Mexico. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 20 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Sunday 17 January 2021 at 4:04 am local time.
