Just 6 minutes ago, a 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Ridgecrest, Kern County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded late at night on Sunday 17 January 2021 at 11:29 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 1.1 miles below the surface.

The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.3 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Searles Valley (pop. 1,700) located 13 miles from the epicenter, and Ridgecrest (pop. 28,800) 25 miles away. In China Lake Acres (pop. 1,900, 27 miles away), and Inyokern (pop. 1,100, 28 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.

The earthquake hit early evening on Monday 18 January 2021 at 6:17 pm local time at an intermediate to considerable depth of 158 km.
