Light 4.8 quake hits near Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico

Just 27 minutes ago, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Wednesday 20 January 2021 at 7:59 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 3 km below the surface.

The event was filed by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Loreto (pop. 14,700) located 71 km from the epicenter.
