Significant earthquake of magnitude 5.1 just reported 22 km northeast of Rotorua, New Zealand

Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Kawerau (pop. 6,700) located 18 km from the epicenter, Rotorua (pop. 65,900) 22 km away, Rotorua (pop. 65,900) 22 km away, Edgecumbe (pop. 1,600) 32 km away, and Maketu (pop. 1,100) 35 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Whakatane (pop. 18,600) located 45 km from the epicenter, Tauranga (pop. 110,300) 53 km away, and Taupo (pop. 22,500) 76 km away.
