Small earthquake of magnitude 3.5 just reported 13 km southeast of Prievidza, Slovakia

A magnitude 3.5 earthquake near Prievidza, Okres Prievidza, Trencin, Slovakia, was reported only 7 minutes ago by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Thursday 28 January 2021 at 9:16 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Handlova (pop. 18,000) located 6 km from the epicenter, Prievidza (pop. 53,000) 13 km away, and Žiar nad Hronom (pop. 19,400) 14 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Žarnovica (pop. 6,600) located 22 km from the epicenter, Partizanske (pop. 24,400) 25 km away, Banska Štiavnica (pop. 10,200) 29 km away, Banovce nad Bebravou (pop. 18,900) 34 km away, Ilava (pop. 5,400) 50 km away, and Považska Bystrica (pop. 43,900) 54 km away. In Puchov (pop. 18,800, 57 km away), and Nitra (pop. 86,300, 63 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
