Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes near Juchitan de Zaragoza, Heroica Ciudad de Juchitán de Zaragoza, Oaxaca, Mexico

Just 39 minutes ago, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Juchitan de Zaragoza, Heroica Ciudad de Juchitán de Zaragoza, Oaxaca, Mexico. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Friday 29 January 2021 at 2:38 pm local time, at an intermediate depth of 103 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Las Cruces (pop. 120) located 1 km from the epicenter, Ixtepec (pop. 25,400) 35 km away, El Espinal (pop. 7,800) 41 km away, San Pedro Comitancillo (pop. 3,900) 45 km away, Juchitan de Zaragoza (pop. 74,800) 46 km away, Santa Maria Mixtequilla (pop. 3,600) 61 km away, San Blas Atempa (pop. 12,000) 64 km away, Santa Maria Jalapa del Marqués (pop. 9,000) 69 km away, and Magdalena Tequisistlan (pop. 3,800) 85 km away. In San Miguel Tenango (pop. 640, 94 km away), and Asuncion Tlacolulita (pop. 540, 102 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
