The earthquake hit early morning on Thursday 11 February 2021 at 3:31 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. A magnitude 5.0 earthquake near Illapel, Provincia de Choapa, Coquimbo Region, Chile, was reported only 9 minutes ago by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide.
