Moderate magnitude 4.8 quake hits 100 km southwest of Jayapura, Indonesia in the morning

A moderately shallow magnitude 4.8 earthquake was reported in the morning near Jayapura, Papua, Indonesia.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Thursday 18 February 2021 at 10:06 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 58 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Abepura (pop. 62,200) located 88 km from the epicenter, and Jayapura (pop. 134,900) 100 km away.
