An earthquake of magnitude 3.3 occurred only 8 minutes ago 6 miles northeast of Banning, California, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 6.3 miles beneath the epicenter near Banning, Riverside County, California, USA, in the afternoon on Sunday 21 February 2021 at 4:28 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.3 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cabazon (pop. 2,500) located 6 miles from the epicenter, Banning (pop. 30,900) 6 miles away, Beaumont (pop. 43,800) 11 miles away, Yucaipa (pop. 53,300) 14 miles away, San Jacinto (pop. 47,000) 17 miles away, Hemet (pop. 83,900) 20 miles away, Redlands (pop. 71,000) 22 miles away, and Moreno Valley (pop. 204,200) 24 miles away. In Riverside (pop. 322,400, 34 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
