Moderate magnitude 4.2 quake hits 77 km south of Kalo Nero, Greece in the afternoon

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred 31 minutes ago 77 km south of Kalo Nero, Greece, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 7.5 km beneath the epicenter near Kalo Nero, Crete, Greece, in the afternoon on Friday 26 February 2021 at 5:46 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.1. Other agencies reporting the same quake include Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (ENSN) at magnitude 4.2, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.0, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.3.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Kalo Nero (pop. 78) located 77 km from the epicenter, Ierapetra (pop. 12,400) 79 km away, Kentri (pop. 1000) 81 km away, Nea Anatoli (pop. 1000) 81 km away, Kritsa (pop. 1,300) 97 km away, Sitia (pop. 8,700) 98 km away, and Aghios Nicolaos (pop. 11,400) 99 km away.
