The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.0 quake in the United States near El Cajon, San Diego County, California, only 7 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Thursday 11 March 2021 at 11:26 pm local time at a shallow depth of 6.4 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.0 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mt Laguna (pop. 57) located 10 miles from the epicenter. In El Cajon (pop. 103,700, 42 miles away), El Centro (pop. 44,000, 42 miles away), Santee (pop. 57,800, 42 miles away), Poway (pop. 50,200, 45 miles away), and La Mesa (pop. 60,100, 45 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
