The earthquake hit in the evening on Saturday 13 March 2021 at 8:32 pm local time at a great depth of 551 km. A second report was later issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.8 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.3.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Maitum (pop. 8,500, 73 km away), and Lake Sebu (pop. 21,800, 101 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
