Significant 5.1 quake hits near Pelabuhanratu, West Java, Indonesia

Indonesia was shaken near Pelabuhanratu, West Java, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 only 10 minutes ago, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 18 km beneath the epicenter near Pelabuhanratu, West Java, Indonesia, around noon on Wednesday 14 April 2021 at 1:28 pm local time. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Pelabuhanratu (pop. 43,000) located 79 km from the epicenter, Cicurug (pop. 89,000) 113 km away, Sukabumi (pop. 276,400) 119 km away, Rangkasbitung (pop. 126,900) 119 km away, Pandeglang (pop. 92,300) 121 km away, and Ciampea (pop. 207,200) 124 km away.
