An earthquake of magnitude 3.2 occurred only 9 minutes ago 8 miles northwest of Anchorage, Alaska, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 21 miles beneath the epicenter near Anchorage, Alaska, USA, around noon on Monday 19 April 2021 at 12:06 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.2 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Point MacKenzie (pop. 530) located 2 miles from the epicenter, and Anchorage (pop. 298,700) 8 miles away. In Elmendorf Air Force Base (pop. 6,600, 13 miles away), Big Lake (pop. 3,400, 13 miles away), Eagle River (pop. 24,800, 14 miles away), Eagle River (pop. 24,800, 14 miles away), Knik-Fairview (pop. 14,900, 18 miles away), Houston (pop. 2,200, 22 miles away), and Meadow Lakes (pop. 7,600, 24 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
