An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 12 minutes ago 94 km northeast of Kiunga, Papua New Guinea, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.

The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 83 km beneath the epicenter near Kiunga, North Fly, Western Province, Papua New Guinea, in the morning on Sunday 25 April 2021 at 7:24 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as well.
