Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes near Playas, Provincia del Guayas, Ecuador

Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.1.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Playas (pop. 30,600) located 15 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include La Libertad (pop. 75,900) located 60 km from the epicenter, Salinas (pop. 43,900) 65 km away, Guayaquil (pop. 1,952,000) 72 km away, Duran (pop. 167,800) 76 km away, Pedro Carbo (pop. 23,400) 81 km away, El Triunfo (pop. 32,300) 84 km away, Naranjal (pop. 32,000) 94 km away, and Machala (pop. 198,100) 99 km away.
