Small 3.2 quake hits near Rybnik, Silesia, Poland

An earthquake of magnitude 3.2 occurred 34 minutes ago 16 km southwest of Rybnik, Poland, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Rybnik, Silesia, Poland, in the morning on Wednesday 5 May 2021 at 9:44 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Syrynia (pop. 3,100) located 1 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Rydultowy (pop. 21,900) located 6 km from the epicenter, Wodzisław Śląski (pop. 49,500) 9 km away, Radlin (pop. 17,500) 9 km away, Raciborz (pop. 58,500) 12 km away, Rybnik (pop. 142,500) 16 km away, Jastrzębie Zdroj (pop. 95,800) 18 km away, and Ostrava (pop. 313,100) 22 km away. In Katowice (pop. 317,300, 55 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
