Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) reported a magnitude 4.0 quake in Japan near Hachinohe, Hachinohe Shi, Aomori, only 14 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Friday 7 May 2021 at 4:43 am local time at an intermediate depth of 72 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.8.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Hachinohe (pop. 239,000, 86 km away), and Misawa (pop. 42,800, 97 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
If you felt it, report it through our site or app right now!
