Small 3.4 quake hits near Kalifornsky, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, USA

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.4 quake in the United States near Kalifornsky, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, only 8 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Saturday 8 May 2021 at 11:49 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 21 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.4 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Kasilof (pop. 550) located 7 miles from the epicenter, Cohoe (pop. 1,400) 10 miles away, Kalifornsky (pop. 7,900) 12 miles away, Soldotna (pop. 4,500) 16 miles away, Ridgeway (pop. 2,000) 19 miles away, and Kenai (pop. 7,700) 21 miles away. In Sterling (pop. 5,600, 23 miles away), and Nikiski (pop. 4,500, 30 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
