Significant 5.2 quake hits near Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, India

A shallow magnitude 5.2 earthquake was reported early evening near Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, India.
According to India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake hit on Tuesday 25 May 2021 at 6:01 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Mahoba (pop. 89,200) located 20 km from the epicenter, Chhatarpur (pop. 111,600) 30 km away, and Khajuraho (pop. 25,700) 38 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.

Weak shaking might have been felt in Rāth (pop. 61,700) located 53 km from the epicenter, Panna (pop. 46,800) 65 km away, Bānda (pop. 152,200) 69 km away, and Orai (pop. 158,300) 99 km away.
