A second report was later issued by France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), which listed it as a magnitude 5.5 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.2.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Kamogawa (pop. 29,100) located 65 km from the epicenter, Katsuura (pop. 22,300) 65 km away, Tateyama (pop. 50,100) 66 km away, Miura (pop. 51,500) 94 km away, Mobara (pop. 97,300) 97 km away, Futtsu (pop. 51,700) 97 km away, Kimitsu (pop. 92,100) 99 km away, Kisarazu (pop. 122,500) 100 km away, and Yokohama (pop. 3,574,400) 117 km away.
