Moderate magnitude 4.8 earthquake 14 km southeast of Sibenik, Croatia

An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 6 minutes ago 14 km southeast of Sibenik, Croatia, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 2 km beneath the epicenter near Sibenik, Grad Šibenik, Sibenik-Knin, Croatia, early morning on Tuesday 8 June 2021 at 5:59 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Ljubostinje (pop. 60) located 8 km from the epicenter.
In Sibenik (pop. 37,100) located 14 km from the epicenter, Vodice (pop. 6,100) 23 km away, Trogir (pop. 11,000) 24 km away, and Kastel Stari (pop. 7,100) 28 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.

Weak shaking might have been felt in Split (pop. 176,300) located 37 km from the epicenter, Solin (pop. 20,200) 39 km away, Knin (pop. 11,200) 43 km away, and Zadar (pop. 71,300) 82 km away.
