Moderate 4.8 quake hits near Dera Bugti, Dera Bugti District, Balochistan, Pakistan

An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 18 minutes ago 76 km northeast of Dera Bugti, Pakistan, India's National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported.

The quake hit at a shallow depth of 15 km beneath the epicenter near Dera Bugti, Dera Bugti District, Balochistan, Pakistan, in the morning on Thursday 22 July 2021 at 7:12 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Barkhan (pop. 8,800) located 28 km from the epicenter, Kohlu (pop. 11,100) 36 km away, Dera Bugti (pop. 18,100) 76 km away, and Dajal (pop. 17,600) 85 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Jampur (pop. 63,800) located 106 km from the epicenter, and Dera Ghazi Khan (pop. 236,100) 118 km away.
