A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Anan (pop. 55,400) located 14 km from the epicenter, Komatsushimachō (pop. 42,600) 23 km away, Tokushima (pop. 267,300) 31 km away, Ishii (pop. 26,400) 35 km away, Kamojimachō-jōgejima (pop. 24,400) 40 km away, Narutochō-mitsuishi (pop. 64,100) 45 km away, Minato (pop. 375,300) 67 km away, and Takamatsu (pop. 334,200) 80 km away.
