Moderate magnitude 4.7 quake hits 75 km east of Faizabad, Afghanistan around noon

An intermediate magnitude 4.7 earthquake was reported around noon near Faizabad, Faīẕābād, Badakhshan, Afghanistan.

According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the quake hit on Sunday 1 August 2021 at 1:16 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 99 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
