Moderate magnitude 4.9 quake hits 80 km north of Mawlaik, Myanmar (Burma) early evening

India's National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported a magnitude 4.9 quake in Myanmar (Burma) near Mawlaik, Mawlaik District, Sagaing Region, only 11 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early evening on Monday 2 August 2021 at 7:46 pm local time at a moderately shallow depth of 63.3 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
