A magnitude 4.2 earthquake near Illapel, Provincia de Choapa, Coquimbo Region, Chile, was reported only 22 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a moderately shallow depth of 43 km beneath the epicenter around noon on Thursday, September 16th, 2021, at 1:34 pm local time.
