5.9 quake 7 Oct 3:01 am (GMT +5)
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.5. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Harnai (pop. 11,100) located 14 km from the epicenter.
In Alik Ghund (pop. 7,600) located 56 km from the epicenter, Loralai (pop. 37,800) 59 km away, Sibi (pop. 64,100) 75 km away, Mach (pop. 16,900) 76 km away, Dadhar (pop. 15,100) 89 km away, and Quetta (pop. 733,700) 97 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available.
