Magnitude 4.4 earthquake strikes near Los Llanos de Aridane, La Palma Island, Canary Islands, Spain

According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 34 km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.9.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Fuencaliente de la Palma (pop. 1,900) located 7 km from the epicenter, Mazo (pop. 4,800) 9 km away, Breña Baja (pop. 4,200) 10 km away, El Paso (pop. 7,100) 12 km away, Brena Alta (pop. 7,100) 12 km away, Tazacorte (pop. 5,700) 14 km away, Los Llanos de Aridane (pop. 20,800) 14 km away, and Santa Cruz de La Palma (pop. 17,100) 16 km away.
