Magnitude 3.2 earthquake strikes near Pāhala, Hawaii County, Hawaii, USA

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.2 quake in the United States near Pāhala, Hawaii County, Hawaii, only 17 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the afternoon on Wednesday, November 17th, 2021, at 5:33 pm local time at a moderately shallow depth of 21 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.2 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Pāhala (pop. 1,400) located 4 miles from the epicenter. In Hawaiian Ocean View (pop. 4,400, 18 miles away), Volcano Village (pop. 2,600, 27 miles away), Mountain View (pop. 3,900, 38 miles away), Holualoa (pop. 8,500, 43 miles away), Hawaiian Paradise Park (pop. 11,400, 46 miles away), Kailua-Kona (pop. 12,000, 47 miles away), and Hilo (pop. 43,300, 48 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
