Moderate 4.6 quake hits near Kandrian, West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea

An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred 31 minutes ago 49 km southwest of Kandrian, Papua New Guinea, the United States Geological Survey reported.

The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 35 km beneath the epicenter near Kandrian, West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea, early morning on Friday, November 26th, 2021, at 6:22 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Kandrian (pop. 1000) located 49 km from the epicenter.
