An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 24 minutes ago 91 km northeast of Las Cruces, Mexico, Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 16 km beneath the epicenter near Las Cruces, La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, early morning on Saturday, December 11th, 2021, at 2:53 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Las Cruces (pop. 14) located 91 km from the epicenter.
