Small magnitude 3.8 quake hits 53 miles southwest of Alaska City, Alaska, United States early morning

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.8 quake in the United States near Alaska City, Anchorage, Alaska, only 10 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Saturday, May 14th, 2022, at 6:22 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 35 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.8 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.8.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Nikiski (pop. 4,500) located 6 miles from the epicenter, Kenai (pop. 7,700) 15 miles away, Ridgeway (pop. 2,000) 16 miles away, Soldotna (pop. 4,500) 19 miles away, Sterling (pop. 5,600) 21 miles away, Kalifornsky (pop. 7,900) 24 miles away, and Cohoe (pop. 1,400) 28 miles away. In Alaska City (pop. 298,700, 53 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
