Just 16 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Faizabad, Faīẕābād, Badakhshan, Afghanistan. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Thursday, June 23rd, 2022, at 7:56 am local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 165 km below the surface.
The event was filed by India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Jurm (pop. 12,100) located 43 km from the epicenter. In Faizabad (pop. 44,400, 71 km away), Ashkāsham (pop. 12,100, 76 km away), Farkhār (pop. 10,500, 78 km away), Ishqoshim (pop. 26,000, 84 km away), and Taloqan (pop. 64,300, 109 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
