Moderate magnitude 4.6 quake hits 81 km southeast of Arica, Chile in the afternoon

The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Cuya (pop. 170) located 16 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Arica (pop. 186,000) located 81 km from the epicenter, and Huara (pop. 1,100) 97 km away.
