The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.5 quake in Colombia near Turbo, Antioquia, only 29 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Friday, August 5th, 2022, at 8:03 pm local time at a moderately shallow depth of 35 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5 as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.

Weak shaking might have been felt in Necocli (pop. 10,800) located 30 km from the epicenter, Unguia (pop. 4,200) 32 km away, and Turbo (pop. 50,500) 43 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Apartado (pop. 86,400) located 67 km from the epicenter, San Pedro de Uraba (pop. 11,100) 73 km away, San Juan de Uraba (pop. 10,800) 74 km away, Carepa (pop. 20,600) 76 km away, and Chigorodo (pop. 48,400) 83 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available.
