The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Pico del Monte (pop. 590) located 11 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Copala (pop. 6,600) located 15 km from the epicenter, Florencio Villarreal (pop. 11,800) 23 km away, Cuautepec (pop. 3,600) 27 km away, Marquelia (pop. 6,600) 30 km away, Las Vigas (pop. 4,500) 31 km away, San Marcos (pop. 13,300) 44 km away, and Ayutla de los Libres (pop. 15,400) 49 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include San Luis Acatlan (pop. 8,300) located 50 km from the epicenter.
