Moderate magnitude 4.4 earthquake 18 km southwest of Pesaro, Italy

4.4 quake 9 Nov 7:40 am (GMT +1)
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Pesaro, Pesaro et Urbino, The Marches, Italy, in the morning on Wednesday, November 9th, 2022, at 7:40 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.9.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Montefelcino (pop. 320) located 3 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Fano (pop. 39,000) located 18 km from the epicenter, Pesaro (pop. 77,200) 18 km away, Riccione (pop. 32,700) 30 km away, Senigallia (pop. 30,900) 32 km away, San Marino (pop. 4,500) 36 km away, Rimini (pop. 118,700) 39 km away, and Iesi (pop. 37,000) 43 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ancona (pop. 90,000) located 58 km from the epicenter.
