5.5 quake 10 Nov 10:31 am (GMT +5:30)
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Shi Yomi, West Siang, Arunachal Pradesh, India, in the morning on Thursday, November 10th, 2022, at 10:01 am local time. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), which listed it as a magnitude 5.5 earthquake as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 5.5, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 5.5.
Generally quakes of this magnitude are recorded by more than one agency and the results can vary, with subsequent reports that come in after the first one often showing more accuracy.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Shi Yomi (pop. 13,300) located 14 km from the epicenter.
In Along (pop. 18,400) located 52 km from the epicenter, and Bāsār (pop. 4,200) 58 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Silapathar (pop. 22,300) located 98 km from the epicenter, Pasighat (pop. 25,600) 104 km away, and Dibrugarh (pop. 122,200) 118 km away.
