Spring valley, Ca / Light shaking (MMI IV) : Woke me from sleep. Left and heard room rattling for a couple seconds
Nuku'alofa, Tonga / Moderate shaking (MMI V) : I was parked in the dark and suddenly my vehicle was first I thought it was some people shaking the van, but after a while I realised it was an earthquake then immediately checked handbrake to ensure it was on. Then immediately after my husband and daughter called, even my son from New Zealand called to check if everything was okay. I went to buy something in a shop later and saw goods scattered on the floor.
Nuku'alofa, Tonga / Very strong shaking (MMI VII) : Quite frightening with probably the strongest earthquake I have ever experienced in Tonga. Was inside the car and initially thought a heavy duty vehicle had bumped into us from the reat of the car before we realised it was an earthquake - and it was quite a strong one - that's how we felt - myself, sister and two teenage kids. A good amount of goods at the shop we were about to purchase from fell off their shelves. Those inside the shop and people from nearby shops shouted that it was a strong
Nuku'alofa TONGA / Strong shaking (MMI VI) : Felt like it lasted a while, moderate shaking tapered off to slight shaking. Felt like waves, started to feel seasick.
neifafu, vavau, tonga (242.2 km NNE of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III)
