San Jorge (Nicaragua, 266 km SE of epicenter) : I'm currently visiting Nicaragua from America because I have family here. Currently I'm in San Jorge, Nicaragua and when I felt the earthquake it actually wasn't that bad. I was sitting on the couch and I started to hear things shaking around me and then I felt the ground trembling. It took me a second to realize I was in the midst of an earthquake considering I've never been in one. My friend lived in Managua, Nicaragua and from previous earthquake events Ive heard in Nicaragua, many have occurred in the capital and so I called her. When she picked up she sounded like she was out of breath. She said she had ran outside as soon as she felt the shaking and because most collage apartments are so little in the capital, there is no where to hid under and many ran outside during the event. She said it was one of the worst earthquake experience she's ever been in. She Heard the ground cracking. She said a lot of things fell off of the counters in there kitchen and a majority of the books left in the bed were on the floor. I was glad she was okay but what I also wanted to know was, how come a town roughly 2 hours away from the capital barley felt anything but then a whole country over (Guatemala) felt the earthquake too, rough or soft I don't know but that still sounds pretty massive for us to have barley felt it. (reported through EMSC)
