Pontyberem / MMI IV (Light shaking): glass on cabinet vibrating, sofa vibrating, sounded like a lorry or train was coming through the wall of the house. Gradual rumbling that built up & up. Dog & cat were close, dog barking just before it happened. Scary!
Tonyrefail / MMI IV (Light shaking): Thought there was a car accident outside. Heard a very loud bang at the same time as feeling of house being shunted. No damage but was quite alarming. Lasted just about a second or two.
Mumbles Swansea / MMI IV (Light shaking): Heard a rumbling sound getting louder (sounded like a large lorry out of control coming down the hill or thunder/a landslide) which lasted a few seconds. Papers and a book fell off the edge of a table during this time of shaking. At the end of the rumble was a large jolt and it felt like the floor was dropped/ tipped down and forward beneath us almost like a wave. It was strong enough to knock me off balance slightly.
Abergavenny (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) (59 km E from epicenter)(no details): It began by sounding as if a giant was walking on the house roof, then there was a loud rumbling, then the whole house shook back and forth very fast for a few seconds. I rushed out, imagining a hang glider had crashed into my house. Was puzzled to find no damage. My B.P. has been high since. My neighbour was lying on her bed and imagined the noise was from a cupboard and thought there must be a huge rat inside. She was hitting the cupboard with a stick and was quite relieved to know it was 'just' an earthquake... not a rat. (via EMSC)
Saint Mellons (United Kingdom) (57 km E from epicenter)(no details): It felt like a single "thump" - one movement, no oscillation or repeated shaking (via EMSC)
Bridgend (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) (27 km SE from epicenter)(no details): How did this happen are we on a fault? (via EMSC)
