Waikaloa Village (45.9 km W of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) : It was my first time experiencing an earthquake. I initially thought that high winds were causing the windows to rattle but when the rattling continued and only intensified, it was as if the walls and the whole building was also being rattled. The rumbling was initially similar to the rumbling of a passing underground subway train but as it intensified, it sounded as if the rumbling came from immediately below my feet.
