Location of this evening's quake in the Philippines
Location of this evening's quake in the Philippines
A moderate quake struck SE Mindanao this evening, at 01:44 am local time. The epicenter was 18 km SE of Digos City and depth estimates range between 18-45 km.
In Digos, moderate to strong shaking was felt. Weak shaking lasting up to approx. 15-20 seconds was also felt in Davao City at 60 km distance further north. Most people reported feeling a lateral shaking movement caused by the quake, indicating a strong shearing component of the seismic waves.
While some minor damage (small cracks, objects fallen from shelves etc) might have occurred in Digos and other nearby places closest to the epicenter, no significant damage should have occurred other areas including Davao City.
