A shallow magnitude 4.0 hit near India's NW coast last night, at approx. 100 km distance north of Mumbai.
The quake was felt weakly in the areas near the epicenter, sometimes in up to approx. 70 km distance. In contrast to the Himalaya region, earthquakes are very rare in the rest of the subcontinent.
