Locations of user reports of the quake near Leighton Buzzard this morning
The British Geological Survey (BGS) now also reports the quake as a magnitude 3.3 tremor widely felt in Leighton Buzzard town (pop. 37,000), which is only few kilometers from the epicenter.
The now very densely populated map of user reports on our website shows nicely how most of the city experienced light to moderate shaking on the Mercalli scale (blue to green colors).
It is interesting to note that BGS took 25 minutes more than the first reporting agency, France's RENASS, to mention the earthquake in their public data feed.
Update Tue, 8 Sep 2020, 09:14
We received more than 500 reports within the first 20 minutes of the quake. This clearly shows that the quake was widely felt and that the occurrence of even a small earthquake in areas that are not used to earth tremors makes people very curious and sometimes afraid to find out what it might have caused.
