The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.1 quake in Japan near the town of Ōfunato only 10 minutes ago. The earthquake shook early afternoon on Friday 30 October 2020 at 2.38 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 40 km. The magnitude, exact epicenter location and depth of the quake are likely to be revised within the next few hours as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt, based on preliminary calculations, include Ōfunato (pop. 35,400) at a distance of 65 km with very weak shaking, Kamaishi (pop. 43,100) at a distance of 74 km with very weak shaking, Ōtsuchi (pop. 16,500) at a distance of 82 km with very weak shaking, and Ishinomaki (pop. 117,200) at a distance of 93 km with very weak shaking.
